Spring 2010 was one of the wettest seasons in New England history. Many homes were destroyed by flooding and other water damage. The cost to homeowners was significant financially and emotionally.
Even if your basement did not get flooded, a bit of moisture, in a poorly ventilated area, can lead to mold. This is especially true in the hot and humid summer months.
Common causes of mold:
Closing your home for vacation this summer, even for a short time, can create the ideal breeding conditions for mold growth. Avoid coming home to a musty-smelling home and a mold problem by taking some precautions. For example, don’t ignore mold you can see. Often times you can clean it up yourself. If the area is larger than 4-8 square feet, you’re better off calling an expert mold remover.
Keep in mind, mold also often grows in places you don’t see. You may have a mold problem, if you:
-Detect a musty/moldy smell
-Find that someone’s allergies are getting worse
-Experienced any of the causes listed to the left
